Biography
Yujin Jeong is an artist and a registered nurse who previously worked at Haematology ward and Radiation Oncology Center in Korea. She usually works with her experiences of nursing patients during their most unpleasant moment of lives. She steals or picks up discarded objects from the institution and either renders them non-functional or mimics their function, presenting as assemblages sculptures. The objects she uses are not only medical supplies but also everyday items, repurposed to create narrative relationships. These evoke viewers to imagine events—medical incidents—blurring the line between the familiar and the institutional.
정유진 작가는 병원에서 간호사로 일했던 경험을 바탕으로 작업합니다. 백혈병 병동과 암병동에서 벌어진 반복적인 죽음의 목격으로 인한 죽음에 대한 무력감과 무관심함을 주제로 다루고 있습니다. 작가는 기관에서 버려진 물건들을 줍거나 훔쳐진 재료들로 기능이 되던 것을 기능이 되지 못하게 만들고 이를 조합하여 한 조각의 형태로써 보여지게 합니다. 또한 사용된 오브제들은 실제 병원의 물품이 아닌 일상적인 사물들을 조합해 기관의 물건으로
흉내내며, 이를 통해 서사적 관계(narrative relationships)를 만들어 관찰(observation)밖에 할 수 없는 관객에게 의료적 사건(event)을
상상하게
만듭니다.
